So You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

Hey self,

It’s me again.

I know you’re feeling overwhelmed right now. That’s totally understandable given the circumstances. I wanted to bring up some things that will hopefully help you maintain focus and perspective through all these feelings you’re having. These are things you know already, but that are easy to forget when anxiety takes over.

  1. You’ve been through this before and have made it to the other side:
Knowing you (because I am you), you probably feel like you’ve never been this anxious or upset or overwhelmed ever before. That’s not true. You’ve been in this position a million times and since you’re reading this letter right now, I can confidently say you’ve gotten through it every time. I’m not saying that what you’re feeling right now isn’t serious and valid, just that you’ve worked through this stuff before and you can certainly do it again.
  2. There’s something that you will learn from going through this (“you’re going through this for a reason” but not as fatalistic):
I know you have hang ups about the idea that “everything happens for a reason” but looking back I know you’d agree that everything you’ve been through, every trial and tribulation, has taught you something that you now value. These moments have helped make you who you are. There may or may not be a grand cosmic intention for putting you…
